“…Down-sloping clouds cap the ridgelines and peaks of 20 Mile Valley, in the distance, and Portage Valley like frosting on a cake, depicting the turmoil of high pressure fighting against low pressure. A rising moon casts its light as the glassy surface of Portage River glides by slowly through the ice edges on its way to the sea. Tilting trees at the rivers bend attest to the high waters of summer cutting into the banks. Tracks on the far snow bank show the recent passage of a moose. A huge energetic aurora dances across the northwest amid an “electric fringe” of white-magenta, with speeds able to exceed 200-300 kilometers per second…”
