All night the constant grinding of ice-floes at the confluence of the Susitna & Talkeetna Rivers echoes throughout the crisp winter air.
But in the wee hours before dawn the crush of ice suddenly stopped as the floes backed up and capped the great rivers. In the quiet of the cottonwood forest the snow-cover began to reflect color and light. Looking up through the woodland canopy, a vivid auroral corona briefly fills the center of night, a most spectacular treetop treasure.
